For many, going to the dentist is a very nerve-wracking experience, and frankly, most practices really don’t do anything to help with this. However, at Holistic Dentistry Montclair, we try to be different in the best ways possible. Our office is a relaxing and warm environment filled with a very friendly and understanding team, and should you need a little extra help to feel comfortable during your appointments, we’re happy to offer sedation dentistry. These safe and clinically-proven techniques will help eliminate any stress or discomfort you may experience in the dental chair so you finally visit the dentist without any worry. Would you be interested in using sedation at your next appointment? To learn more, contact us today.
If you would like an alternative, drug-free way to relax at your next dental appointment, NuCalm may be perfect for you. It uses a combination of supplements, relaxing music, noise-canceling headphones, gentle vibrations, and an eye mask to help your brain achieve a similar state to early sleep. It’s been clinically proven to lessen the brain’s stress response, and a patient can use it without any worrisome side effects or lasting drowsiness.
If you experience mild to moderate dental phobia, Dr. Moussa can prescribe you a light sedative to take about an hour before your scheduled appointment. That way, by the time you actually sit in the dental chair, you’ll be completely physically and mentally relaxed. You’ll remain conscious the entire time, but your appointment will fly by very quickly, and you’ll likely have very little memory of it afterward (which is perfect for some patients!).
Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” has been used for over 100 years to help slightly nervous dental patients relax. To use it, all a patient has to do is inhale the colorless, odorless gas through a small nasal mask to achieve a feeling of lightness, calm, and even euphoria. The mask will stay on for the entire appointment, and after we’ve removed it, the gas’ effect wear off almost instantly, allowing a patient to quickly go back to their normal day.
If you require a complicated procedure or want to have multiple treatments completed in one well-planned appointment to save time, then we may recommend general anesthesiology. With this, you will sleep through your entire appointment and wake up with no memory of it afterward. This is also ideal for patients unable to comfortably sit in the chair for long periods of time or those with physical or mental disabilities. To ensure your health and safety, this will be applied by a specially-trained anesthesiologist.
